Bristol City to Win

Reason for tip

Hull have lost a few key men over the summer and while their own signings look promising, it could take them some time to gel. The Tigers have also been poor in pre-season, while Bristol City have enjoyed a strong warm-up campaign and have a settled squad that looks ready to hit the ground running. This could be a close game between two teams who will feel a top six finish is achievable but the Robins appear better prepared for the new season and look backable as underdogs.

Bristol City 2-1

Reason for tip

An away win appeals but this game is likely to be close. Clean sheets were an issue for the Robins on the road last season as they conceded in 10 of their final 12 trips. Hull might be a work in progress but they should have enough quality to keep this competitive so a 2-1 win for the visitors is the correct score pick.

Hull City vs Bristol City Predictions

  • Hull have lost a few key players over the summer.
  • Bristol City have impressed in pre-season.
  • The Robins lost just one of their last eight at the end of last season.

Robins could spring a surprise

Hull and Bristol City will both feel they have a chance to finish in the Championship’s top six this season after top half finishes last term.

The Tigers only just missed out on the play-offs, while Bristol City came in 11th and will hope for a better showing in Liam Manning’s first full season in charge.

Hull have home advantage but they could take a little while to get going this season. There have been some big changes to the squad, with Jaden Philogene and Ozan Tufan departing. They do appear to have recruited well – Marvin Mehlem could prove to be a great buy – and it their new-look squad may take some time to settle.

We probably shouldn’t read a great deal into pre-season results but here it is worth noting that Hull have been poor in their warm-up campaign and that perhaps does indicate they have a bit or work to do to get the squad working as an effective unit.

In contrast, Bristol City have been fairly quiet over the summer and their pre-season form has been strong. They look ready to hit the ground running after ending last season with just one defeat in their final eight games and as underdogs they look backable here.

Clean sheets were an issue for the Robins on the road last season as they conceded in 10 of their final 12 trips. Hull might be a work in progress but they should have enough quality to keep this competitive so a 2-1 win for the visitors is the correct score pick.
