Ipswich had a really bad weekend and will be keen for an immediate response here. They were beaten 1-0 away to fellow top six hopefuls Cardiff and with Sheffield Wednesday also winning big on the road they have slipped to 9th place and are 4 points off the play-off places. This though is their game in hand on the Bluebirds and the Owls and it is imperative that they win it. They threw away a 2-0 lead at bottom club Bolton in their previous game to only draw 2-2 but have won 3 of their last 5 at Portman Road and have only been beaten at home this season by teams currently in the top six.

Blackburn have won 4 of their last 7 games in the league and they’ve needed those points with several of the sides below them in really good form. Rovers have a 7 point cushion on the relegation zone but were beaten at home by Leeds at the weekend and have taken only 2 points from their last 7 away matches in the Championship.

For that reason you have to like the look of backing Ipswich to win at 11/8 here. Rovers should be able to accumulate enough points at Ewood to ensure they beat the drop so to some extent Paul Lambert can afford to experiment a little and build towards next season.

It is likely to be a close game here and it is hard to see there being many goals. All of those 5 recent Blackburn away defeats were by 1-0 scorelines and their improved goal threat at home hasn’t been translated into a more adventurous approach on the road and they are likely to be quite cautious in this game again so a narrow home win is most likely.
