Manchester City vs Arsenal Predictions
Manchester City’s Champions League journey came to an abrupt end on Wednesday night as Real Madrid beat them 1-0 at the Bernebau. It was a dismal tie over the two legs, with an own goal from Fernando being the only goal in 180 minutes of football.
Manchester City looked bereft of any talent at the Bernebau, and to be honest they were shocking in their 4-2 defeat by Southampton last weekend too. This leaves them with two defeats, two draws, and just one win from their last five outings in all competitions.
This leaves them perilously close to dropping out of the top four. Cross-city rivals Manchester United are just four points adrift of them in 5th position, but the Old Trafford outfit have a game in hand too. A loss against Arsenal on Sunday would leave the race for the top four out of their hands for the first time this season.
Arsenal endured a sticky spell of form back in February, and despite their rather lacklustre performances of late they have been managing to grind out results. Their 1-0 win over Norwich last weekend takes them to within three points of 2nd placed Spurs, and the Gunners would love nothing more than to pip their North London rivals to the runners up position.
Their win over Norwich, which was marred slightly by protesting Arsenal fans, made it four wins and four draws since their last Premier League defeat, and the visiting Gunners have an excellent recent record against Manchester City. They haven’t lost against them in their last five meetings and are coming up against a Manchester City side who are downtrodden after their Champions League exit, in poor form, and tired after a long slog in Madrid.
This makes odds of 1/1 for Arsenal Draw No Bet look very good to me, so I’m backing that along with a 2-1 win for the visitors at 9/1.
