Manchester City vs Dynamo Kiev Predictions

Manchester City’s goalless draw away to Norwich on Saturday puts them well and truly out of the Premier League title race. They are now nine points adrift of leaders Leicester and don’t have a game in hand, and Leicester could extend their lead with a win over Newcastle on Monday.

With them also out of the FA Cup and already wrapped up the Capital One Cup I expect all focus will be on the Champions League now. True, they are only a point above 5th placed West Ham, but I imagine Manuel Pellegrini won’t be particularly fussed about the top four considering he is being replaced at the end of the season. If he can part with a Champions League win he would become a club legend.

They put themselves in a very good position to continue their quest in the away leg in Ukraine as well, with two first half goals and a 90th minute goal from Yaya Toure putting them 3-1 up on Dynamo Kiev with the home leg left to play.

Dynamo Kiev aren’t a bad team by any stretch of the imagination, but three away goals and a two goal deficit to make up at the Etihad might be a step too far for them.

The visitors come into this game after back to back domestic wins, but they have only won two of their last six away days in the Champions League. I don’t see them having much chance at all of overturning the deficit.

Dynamo Kiev have managed to score in each of their last 11 away days in the Champions League, and in all competitions they have found the back of the net 13 matches in a row. Manchester City have also found the net with relative ease recently, barring their goalless draw at Norwich. But they have conceded in eight of their last 12 and haven’t kept a clean sheet in the Champions League in any of their last nine games. At home they have only kept one clean sheet in the Champions League in their history.

This makes odds of 3/4 for Both Teams to Score look very attractive, especially considering that Dynamo Kiev should come out striving for an early goal. I’m going for a 2-1 win for the hosts as well at 7/1.
