Covid set to play a big part

Both teams have reported that Covid has affected preparations for this one. Middlesbrough haven’t played since the 29^th December due to an outbreak in their squad. Whilst Mansfield haven’t played since Boxing Day. Mansfield manager Nigel Clough has said that some of his squad will miss the game as they have returned positive tests this week. With no midweek game for Middlesbrough next week, Chris Wilder is likely to field a strong enough team to take care of business on Saturday.

Boro can make class edge count

Chris Wilder has turned Middlesbrough’s fortunes on their head since his arrival. 16 points from the last 18 available has seen them propel up to 7^th in the Championship just one point outside of the play-off places and with a game in hand. They hold a significant class edge over 4^th tier Mansfield. Highlighted by the fact they were able to add Aaron Connolly from Brighton to their ranks earlier this week.

Mansfield set to come up short once more

Mansfield come into this one in fine fettle themselves having won 10 of their last 11 games in all competitions. However, they tend to be found wanting at this stage of the FA Cup as they haven’t made it past the third round in the past 14 years. Mansfield’s covid interrupted preparations can’t have helped their chances and I expect Chris Wilder’s men to progress into the 4^th round.
