      Molde vs Glenavon Predictions

This has the potential to be one of the greatest nights in the history of Northern Irish side Glenavon. Surprisingly ahead from the 1st Leg they will be hoping to finish the job here but will be well aware that this game will be much tougher with Molde now holding home advantage.

Glenavon had only won two European matches in their history and none since 1995 heading into last week’s 1st Leg in Lurgan. However they produced a spirited display to come from behind and win 2-1, with Rhys Marshall and Joshua Daniels the goal-scoring heroes. Molde are still 1/4 to progress though and certainly that away goal could yet prove decisive.

The Norwegians will be hoping it won’t come to that though. They finished second in the Eliteserien last term and are in title contention again this time around and ought to have enough quality to see off Northern Irish opponents. Man United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjær is their coach and he will expect his side to come flying out the traps here and set about reversing the damage done last week.

The Norwegian league is on its summer break so they’ve not had a game since last week’s defeat and they will be keen to show their true worth here. If their recent home games are anything to go by, it could be a long night for Glenavon. Molde have won all of their last 4 home league games by at least a 2 goal margin and have made a habit of starting fast. They’ve netted 6 goals in the opening 30 minutes of their last 3 home league games and will fancy they can quickly restore their aggregate advantage here.

Glenavon did brilliantly to win last week but their European record suggests that, that was little more than a one-off result and they will struggle to replicate that again here. They’d lost all of their previous 8 European matches and were hammered 6-0 by Icelandic minnows KR in their most recent away European match in 2016.

Even their domestic form was dreadful at the end of last season as they won only 1 of their final 10 league games so it’s hard to know where last week’s result came from. Molde are much the more established side with more all-round quality and should still come back to seal easy progress here.

Backing Molde HT/Molde FT could be worth a punt.
