Montpellier vs Amiens Predictions
Montpellier kept up their good form last week as they drew 0-0 with an improving Saint-Étienne side. Montpellier actually had far more chances than their opponents but managed to miss three clear-cut opportunities through Gaëtan Laborde’s woeful finishing. This has largely been the story of Montpellier’s season so far as they have missed a whopping 17 of their 22 ‘Big Chances’. Despite this, their solid defence, the third best in the league, has kept them going so far and they currently sit 6th under long-term manager Michel Der Zakarian’s excellent stewardship.
They have lost just two of their last eleven games, conceding nine goals and scoring fifteen along the way. Montpellier have the fourth best home record in the league with six wins and a draw in their last seven matches at the Stade de la Mosson and have every right to be confident ahead of this match.
Amiens had been over-performing in the eyes of many pre-season predictions but recently hit a massive roadblock with two heavy defeats coming in quick succession. They had been on a run of six games without a loss before they suffered a 3-1 defeat in Rennes. Luka Elsner’s men followed that up with a 4-0 loss at home to Strasbourg to really kill any hopes of a bounce-back.
These games barely showed what Amiens are good at but absolutely exposed what they’re bad at. They have now conceded the second most goals in Ligue 1 this season with a whopping 24 hitting the back of Régis Gurtner’s net. They are still to keep a clean sheet on the road but have scored seven goals in their last five away games so will be hoping that their solid attack can dig them out here.
Montpellier will be looking to pile on the pressure here as they face an Amiens side desperate not to make it three defeats in a row. However, at the expense of the Unicorns we’re backing the hosts to get the win here. Montpellier would’ve won their clash with Saint-Étienne last week if it hadn’t been for poor finishing and we expect them to bounce back here with a win to continue their excellent home form. Amiens have scored in each of their last five away games though so we’re expecting this to end 2-1 to the hosts. We’re also backing Montpellier to score over 1.5 goals in this match as the home side have netted eight times in their last four matches while Amiens have conceded eleven in their last five.
