NEC Nijmegen vs FC Oss Predictions
After three games without a victory, NEC got back to winning ways in style on match day ten with a resounding 0-3 success at Telstar. Jack De Gier’s side are still 6th in the table as a result of their barren start to October, but three points against Oss this Friday will see them right back into the Play-off mix. Can the Nijmegen outfit deliver at Goffertstadion where their 23 match home unbeaten streak was broken two weeks ago by FC Eindhoven?
It’s been a difficult few weeks for NEC who have struggled to find much rhythm since the opening night of the campaign when they let a two goal lead slip at home to Cambuur.
Fortunately for Jack De Gier’s side, a kind run of fixtures and a bit of luck saw them bag four wins and three draws from their first seven fixtures, but there were certainly a few doubts around whether they were genuine promotion hopefuls.
NEC’s poor performances finally proved costly on match day eight as Almere City beat them 1-0 at Yanmar Stadion, before their 23 match unbeaten run at Goffertstadion was finally ended a fortnight ago by FC Eindhoven who pinched a 0-1 win.
NEC dropped out of the Play-offs as a consequence however they took a step back in the right direction last week as a brace from Sven Braken guided De Gier’s men to a 0-3 victory over Telstar in Ijmuiden. That was arguably NEC’s most accomplished display of the campaign to date, and they’ll now be hoping they can kick on and get back amongst the Play-off places sooner rather than later.
The visit of Oss this week definitely gives them a decent opportunity to do just that, with Klaas Wels’ charges falling off the pace somewhat in recent weeks.
TOP won three of their first four games including a fabulous 1-2 success at Twente on match day four, but they’ve since won just one of their last six outings – picking up a mere six points from those half dozen appearances.
Beaten 0-1 at home to Den Bosch on match day ten, Oss have now drawn a blank in five of their last six matches and look a shadow of the team that started so brightly. Their sharp decline isn’t such a surprise though considering they held a Play-off spot early doors last term before eventually fading into 15th.
NEC aren’t a team to throw too much weight behind based on the times they’ve flattered to deceive this season, but they are justifiably favourites here based on last week’s win, their overall record at Goffertstadion and Oss’ severe drop in form.
So we’re recommending a home win to nil here, which is a good price based on the amount of times Oss have drawn a blank lately, and 2-0 looks a feasible choice in the correct score market.
