Nice vs Montpellier Predictions

  • Nice have won three and drawn two of their last five home games.
  • Montpellier have lost three of their five Ligue 1 away games this term (Drawn 2).
  • Andy Delort has scored five goals in his last seven appearances for Nice, having joined from Montpellier in the summer.

Marauding Atal has augmented Nice’s attack

Nice appear to have rediscovered their attacking verve in recent weeks and that in itself should be enough to get them three points against a Montpellier team still winless on the road this season.

The recent return of Youcef Atal from injury has given a team that had begun to look a bit stale and predictable a new dimension in transitional play. The Algerian’s impact was instant when coming off the bench against Lyon as Nice overturned a 2-0 deficit with three goals in the last ten minutes, and he was similarly impressive in only his second start since September last time out.

We expect Nice to cause Montpellier’s defence a lot of problems this Sunday and run out easy 3-1 winners. The visitors have been exposed on their travels this term, conceding 11 times in five games. Montpellier’s only points gained on the road came from two draws against teams in the bottom seven and they lost each time they visited teams of a similar standard to Nice right now.

Delort can do damage against former club

La Paillade have got on the scoresheet in 80 percent of their away fixtures and that, coupled with Nice’s attacking mindset that has seen them leak goals in their last five Ligue 1 games, suggests it is also worth taking the visitors to score in the bet.

Another profitable avenue to follow could be via the ‘law of the ex’ and the form of former Montpellier frontman Andy Delort ahead of this Sunday’s reunion. The striker has bagged five goals in his last seven appearances and looks good value to add another this weekend.
