Dons still pushing for Europe

It has been a crazy season for Aberdeen that can be divided into three sections – a great start, a mad middle bit when they could not buy a win and then a solid finish that has left the Dons firmly in the race for third place, which would be enough to claim a place in next season’s Europa League.

And they could be playing rangers at a good time as they look to chase down Hibs in the race to finish best of the rest in the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers are not finding their fire

While the Dons saw their eight-match unbeaten run ended by St Mirren in Paisley last week, the Gers seem to be trudging towards the end of the season, even though there is no disgrace in the 1-1 home draw they posted against champions Celtic last week.

The fire seems to have gone out of their bellies after their pursuit of their arch-rivals became futile and a Europa League quarter-final exit to Atletico Bilbao was also a dampener, especially as they were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Queen’s park and have no Scottish Cup final to look forward to.

These two met last month when the Gers needed to come back from two goals down to earn a Pittodrie point with an injury-time equaliser, and we could be in for more of the same.

A draw would not suit Aberdeen as they would love a full return to maintain their European push, but they may have to settle for a point with a 1-1 draw of potential interest to correct-score backers.
