RB Leipzig vs Bayern Munich Predictions
- Leipzig have won the last two meetings with Bayern Munich but had won once in the previous 16 games before that
- Bayern are unbeaten in the league this season, winning four of their first five games
- One side has scored three or more goals in five of the last six meetings
Leipzig eye unique hat-trick
RB Leipzig will bid to become the first team in 17 years to beat Bayern Munich three times in a calendar year when they host the reigning Bundesliga champions on Saturday night.
Leipzig kicked off their campaign with a 3-0 victory over the Bavarians in the German Super Cup having pulled off a 3-1 win in the league at the Allianz Arena at the back end of last season.
Marco Rose’s men enter this latest encounter in excellent form too, winning their last six matches in all competitions, a run which includes four straight league victories.
Fourth-placed Leipzig have scored plenty of goals along the way with only the Bundesliga’s top three having scored more this season. Even Timo Werner is chipping in, the former Chelsea striker ending a five-month goal drought by netting the winner at Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend.
Kane catching fire
Bayern Munich hadn’t been quite as prolific as Leipzig before last weekend when they routed Bochum 7-0 with Harry Kane netting his first Bundesliga hat-trick
Kane also registered two assists as he begins to really make an impact in this Bayern side, particularly his combination play with Leroy Sane.
Sane has scored five times for Bayern this season, four of which have been assisted by Kane, and the ex-Manchester City forward appeals to net again on Saturday.
The England captain also registered a goal and an assist in a 4-3 win over Manchester United in the Champions League in the game before the Bochum demolition and Thomas Tuchel’s men appear in fine fettle going forward.
They will have to cope without Serge Gnabry for Saturday’s game and beyond after broke his arm in the DFB Pokal win over Preußen Münster in midweek, but that shouldn’t affect their goal output too badly.
Four of Bayern’s five games this season have featured four or more goals, while four of the last six encounters with Leipzig have passed the 3.5-goal threshold.
If this is to be a shootout, a slight preference goes towards Bayern, who are unbeaten on their last five trips to the Red Bull Arena and they may just claim the spoils in a potential Bundesliga classic.
