Sampdoria vs Brescia Predictions
- Sampdoria are unbeaten at home to sides outside the top 7.
- No Italian side has kept more clean sheets than Sampdoria since Claudio Ranieri took over the club.
- Samp have won 1-0 in both of their meetings with the other sides in the bottom 3.
Bottom Five Showdown
Two of Serie A’s big strugglers this season are going head to head on Sunday, with both in desperate need of three points. Will Brescia be able to pull off a result on the road, or are we going to see Sampdoria boosting their survival hopes with three points at their own ground?
The hosts head into this clash fifth from bottom, while Brescia are in the drop zone in 18th place. That means this clash could have a major impact on the shape of things at the bottom. Sampdoria may have had their problems at home of late, but they will target a meeting with a side like Brescia as the perfect chance to start getting results here.
Home Demands Easing
Only three sides have a worse record at home this season than Sampdoria, which would lead to concerns over the hosts’ ability to get something out of this one. However, it’s not fair to judge Samp on results alone, as they come into this clash having let six of the top seven within their first nine at home. Unsurprisingly, those are the six they’ve failed to win.
The hosts are otherwise unbeaten at home this term, winning two of those. Samp will expect to get more points on the board soon, with the club winning 1-0 away to each of the bottom two. One of those victories – their 1-0 success against rivals Genoa – was played at this ground. Will they follow that up with a victory over Brescia?
Hosts to Turn it Around
The visitors have lost 67% of their games this season, so it’s hard to see how they can stay up this term. They opened up 2020 with yet another loss, while Samp are aiming to pile onto their problems. The hosts are boosted by the fact that in the last three Serie A seasons (since 2017/18) the Sampdoria striker Fabio Quagliarella has scored 11 goals in 14 meetings against newly-promoted teams, including three braces.
There have also been big signs of improvement from the hosts. Since Claudio Ranieri’s arrival at Sampdoria, only Real Madrid (seven), Leicester and Getafe (both six) have recorded more clean sheets than the Blucerchiati in the top-5 European Leagues. We are backing Samp to add to that here, with another solid victory over one of the league’s worst sides.
With Samp winning 1-0 in both of their victories against the bottom three this season, we expect them to edge out Brescia in this one. The hosts have put together a great record at the back, while Brescia have averaged less than a goal per game this season. Given that form – and with Brescia failing to score in three meetings between these two – a 1-0 home win is our pick.
