Sassuolo vs Roma Predictions

  • Over 2.5 goals have been netted in 16 of Sassuolo’s last 18 league matches.
  • Roma’s last nine Serie A games have contained a total of 30 goals, with five of those games containing over 2.5 goals.
  • Roma beat Sassuolo 2-1 back in September, in this season’s reverse fixture.

Goals guaranteed when Neroverdi are in action

Sassuolo’s tendency to alternate between the sublime and the ridiculous has been on full display recently; since a superb 5-1 win at Empoli, the Neroverdi have been beaten 4-2 by Verona and thrashed 4-0 by lowly Sampdoria, meaning three or more goals have been netted in 16 of their last 18 Serie A outings.

Sassuolo have won three, drawn four, and lost five at home this season, another indicator of their inconsistency, but the total of 34 goals which have featured in their 12 home contests demonstrates the reckless abandon with which Alessio Dionisi’s thrilling Sassuolo side continue to play.

On Sunday, Sassuolo host Roma, who earned a 2-1 win over Dionisi’s charges back in September. Roma have been an enigma under Jose Mourinho; the Giallorossi have a home record which can only be bettered by Inter and Napoli, but have already lost six times in 11 away league games. Roma have also conceded 30 goals so far this season, and don’t exactly fit the profile of a stereotypical Mourinho outfit, with a total of 30 goals being scored in their last nine league matches.

Back three or more goals, with both sides not to be trusted

Sassuolo have only won one home league game since mid-October, but Roma have lost over half of their away outings under Mourinho, a record which effectively puts them out of the race for UEFA Champions League football.

With those records in mind, punters are best advised to stay away from the win markets, and to back three or more goals to be scored, a punt which should by now be a routine for regular watchers of Sassuolo.

In terms of a correct score prediction, a repeat of Roma’s early-season success could be a decent play, with the Neroverdi having only won one of the last eight head-to-head meetings.
