SPAL vs Parma Predictions
Can Parma add to SPAL’s worries when the pair meet in Serie A on Saturday? The hosts are in awful form after a slow start, which has left them second-bottom. Relegation fears are spiking for SPAL, who have needed late surges to pull away from danger in the last two seasons.
The home side have kicked off with five defeats in six, which has left them battling against the drop once again. Last season the hosts were able to win three of their opening four as they maintained their strong finish to the previous campaign. However, SPAL relaxed a little too much in the final weeks of last term, which now means they’ve lost eight of their last nine league games.
Parma will be hoping to take advantage, especially after winning three of their last five. The visitors have back to back home wins which has driven them up the table, but they need to fix their away form. Just 46% of their points last season came away from home, while they have one win in 11 on the road in the league.
However, the visitors have won one of their two trips this term, while they have built up a solid scoring record on their travels. They found the net away to all but two of the bottom half sides in the league. They’ve found the net in 11 of their last 13 trips, scoring 19 g0als in total. That should see them hurt this SPAL defence.
SPAL haven’t kept a clean sheet in Serie A since winning 4-0 at bottom side Chievo at the end of last season. Since then, the hosts have conceded 21 times in the league. We doubt they’re about to turn that record around when they face a Parma team who have scored eight goals in their last five league games.
However, Parma have issues of their own at the back. They have kept one away clean sheet in 2019, while they’ve produced only two across their last 19 away trips. SPAL have scored in 11 straight home games, so they should find the back of the net here.
SPAL have seen both teams score in their last seven home games and judging by Parma’s form, this one will go the same way. Both teams to score is our tip, while we are backing a 2-1 loss for a Parma side who have lost three of their last four on the road.
