Sporting Gijon vs Deportivo La Coruna Predictions
This is a big weekend in the battle to beat the drop with sides between 16th and 19th all facing one another. Sporting Gijon will view this as a rare chance to pick up 3 points but they’re so poor at the back, Depor will really fancy this too.
Pepe Mel took charge of Deportivo La Coruna this week and he provoked an instant response from his new team, who were hammered 4-0 at Leganes last weekend. A 1-1 draw with Atleti is something they can really build from heading into this and they’d also have been encouraged to see top scorer Florin Andone get back on the scoresheet. The Romanian has 8 goals for the season and is the most prolific striker at the bottom end of the league so backing Andone to score anytime at 15/8 looks to offer value here.
Of the bottom five clubs, who are slightly cut adrift now, these are the two teams with the best goalscoring records. Depor average 1.13 goals per game, which is respectable for a side in their position. They’ve conceded in 83% of their league games though and in 85% of their away matches so that should offer plenty of encouragement to Sporting Gijon.
Sporting have actually played quite well at times in some of their recent home games and they do average a decent 1.42 goals per game at home. However, they seem completely incapable of maintaining a solid defensive display for 90 minutes. They were ripped to shreds by Barcelona in midweek and have conceded an alarming 2.42 goals per game at home this term, which has significantly contributed to them losing 58% of their home matches.
Their home games have tended to be really entertaining from a neutral perspective at least and both teams have scored in a huge 92% of them. Given both teams have also scored in 62% of Depor away games, backing Both Teams to Score at 4/5 looks good here.
