Sporting Lisbon -1

Reason for tip

Sporting Lisbon have won all 14 of their home Primeira Liga matches this year, 12 of them by at least two clear goals. Meanwhile, Santa Clara have lost their last three away league matches, two of them by more than one goal.

Sporting Lisbon 3-0

Reason for tip

Santa Clara have failed to score on four of their last five league visits to the Alvalade and, after a 2-0 home defeat to Porto and a 4-1 away loss to Benfica, a 3-0 scoreline might be about right for the difference in quality between these sides.

Sporting Lisbon vs Santa Clara Predictions

  • Santa Clara have lost their last three away league matches, two of them by more than one goal
  • Santa Clara have failed to score on four of their last five league visits to the Alvalade

Lions can lick their wounds and go again

Sporting Lisbon can quickly forget their five-goal home midweek thrashing by Arsenal when they return to domestic matters with a visit from Santa Clara in the Primeira Liga this weekend.
Os Leos have won all 14 of their home Primeira Liga matches this year, 12 of them by at least two clear goals, and will not fear the Azoreans – despite them sitting proudly in fourth place.
Santa Clara are in a slightly false position because of their relatively easy schedule so far and the home advantage that playing in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean a thousand miles from any other club affords them.

Azoreans have struggled to score in Lisbon

Vasco Matos’ men have won five of their six home games, but lost their last three visits to the mainland. They went down by more than one goal in two of those defeats and that will probably be the case on Saturday at the Alvalade, where they have failed to score on four of their last five league visits.
They have also failed their two biggest test of the saeson so far, losing 4-1 to Benfica in Lisbon and going down 2-0 at home to Porto.
Sporting have covered a -1 handicap in 12 of their 14 home league games this year and all six of those that were played this season. This will be their first league game since the departure of Ruben Amorim and the 5-1 loss to Arsenal may be a concern to some, but they had looked great when beating third-tier Amarante in the cup last weekend and should run out easy winners.
