Sudan vs Guinea Bissau Predictions

  • Sudan failed to beat Guinea-Bissau home and away in recent World Cup Qualifiers.
  • Sudan failed to score in six of their last seven matches.
  • Sudan are the lowest ranked nation in AFCON group D.

Sorry Sudan could be sent packing

If you are love to see the underdogs peform well at big tournaments, perhaps try and find a different one than Sudan. FIFA’s #125 ranked nation have a squad completely comprised of players playing in the country’s domestic league system, barring two who play in the lower divisions of Hungary and Sweden.

The latter alone signals that this Sudan squad are not brimming with quality, given that no Sudanese club has ever even won the CAF Champions League. While that may be a coincidence, a lack of experience has surely contributed to Sudan’s current crop failing to win any of their last 11 games (D4, L7).

A strong start is necessary for Guinea-Bissau

Given that these two nations are the lowest ranked sides in AFCON Group D and the fact that they must face two of the pre-tournament favourites after this game, Guinea-Bissau are under no illusions that they must win this game to have any chance of progressing.

Luckily for them, they have experience in holding them out, scoring four times across two recent qualifying H2Hs (W1, D1) in which Mama Balde found the net. Interestingly, Balde plies his trade for ESTAC Troyes and is one of 12 Guinea-Bissau players playing across European leagues.

All in all, I think the experience of playing across top leagues in Europe will just about give Guinea-Bissau the edge in this clash, not to mention their superior recent form. I predict that Sudan’s stale attack will continue to fester here as the opposition record a 2-0 win.
