Sunderland vs Burnley Predictions
- Sunderland are unbeaten at home in the league this season
- Eight of Burnley’s last 11 away games have featured at least three goals
- The Clarets have conceded at least twice in 11 of their last 15 outings
Sunderland loving life in top flight
These two teams have had contrasting fortunes since making the step up from the Championship and Sunderland will be delighted to be 13 points above the drop zone and a further five ahead of Burnley.
Following Arsenal’s defeat to Manchester United last weekend, the Black Cats are the only team left in the top flight who have yet to be beaten at home and only the Gunners and Manchester City have conceded fewer goals on their own patch.
They have had the wobble in the last few weeks but the only win they have claimed in their last seven league outings came in their most recent home game against Crystal Palace, so this looks a good opportunity for them to bounce back from the disappointment of last week’s 3-1 defeat at West Ham.
Defensive issues plaguing Burnley
Burnley started the weekend ten points from safety and they look destined to head straight back to the Championship as only Bournemouth have conceded more goals on the road and the defensive stability that characterised their promotion season last term has deserted them.
Their sole away win of the campaign was against Wolves, the only team below them in the table, but they have posted some decent draws against Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham in the last few weeks.
However, that is not enough to suggest they will become the first team to win in the league at the Stadium of Light this season, but as they put five goals past Championship playoff chasers Millwall in the FA Cup, they can contribute on Monday night.
The best bet looks to be for there to be more than two goals, with a 2-1 Sunderland win of potential interest to correct-score punters.
Brobbey enjoying his opportunity
Sunderland’s Dutch striker Brian Brobbey has performed well since establishing himself in the Black Cats starting line-up just before Christmas.
He scored the equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Spurs, the winner in the victory over Crystal Palace and in the defeat at West Ham last week so he can make his mark against a team who have conceded 44 times in 23 league games this term.
