      Tranmere vs Burton Albion Predictions

Saturday’s League One action sees Tranmere Rovers doing battle with Burton Albion at Prenton Park. A close game is expected to be in order as both sides fight for the points on offer.

After back to back promotions from the depths of the National League, early signs would suggest that the jump in levels may well be catching up with Tranmere. Not helped by the departure of last season’s key figure James Norwood to Ipswich, The Whites are thus far finding life in the third tier quite tough and look like they’ll face a fight to the wire as regards avoiding relegation.

Indeed, after 8 matches, Tranmere have won just once and have just 6 points to their name, putting them in 19th place. Nonetheless, a 2-2 home draw with a strong Peterborough side last time out at least provides reason for encouragement and confidence won’t be too low coming into this game, given the team are unbeaten in 3 home league matches, taking 5 points in the process.

Meanwhile, after finishing 10 points off the play-offs in a disappointing season last year, Burton are hoping to get closer to the top area of the table this campaign. On paper The Brewers have a team that certainly looks able to push for a play-off spot and the side have made a reasonably solid start to the season.

After 8 matches, Burton have collected 12 points, putting them just 2 points off the top 6. The side kicked off the campaign with a disappointing home defeat to Ipswich but they now find themselves in much stronger shape, making this trip to North West an impressive 7 matches unbeaten across all competitions; of which they’ve won 4.

Ultimately, we’re expecting Saturday’s encounter to be quite a close one. Burton are clearly the stronger of the two on paper and will likely be well above Tranmere come May but the hosts have shown recently they can be a tough nut to crack on their own patch and will be competitive in Saturday’s game.

All things considered, backing a draw looks the best way to play here and at current prices, that’s exactly where our money is going. Tranmere have drawn 3 of their last 4 games, Burton have drawn their last 2 away league matches and that leads us to believe that the spoils could well be shared in a closely fought 1-1 stalemate.
