Trelissac FC vs Marseille Predictions
- Trélissac have won just two of their last eleven games.
- The hosts have conceded just twelve goals this season, a better tally than league leaders Sète.
- They have also given Ligue 1 teams a good fight in recent years with their most recent clashes finishing 1-1 with Lille and a 2-0 defeat to Marseille, both in 2016.
- Marseille have only scored more than three goals in two of their last 14 Coupe de France games.
Magnificent Marseille
André Villas-Boas’ Marseille finished off 2019 in tremendous form with wins coming out their ears and confidence sky high. This club has had its troubles in recent years but it finally looks as if it’s going in the right direction with Villas-Boas’ effect on the team being extremely visible. They’ve won seven and drawn one of their last eight matches with wins coming against lofty opponents such as Lyon (2-1), Lille (2-1) and Bordeaux (3-1). They have also had their fair share of clashes with slightly weaker teams like Brest (2-1), Toulouse (2-0) and Nîmes (3-1) which should put them in good stead ahead of this trip to the mid-west of France.
Marseille’s away form has been what’s brought on some of les Olympiens’ slightly more laboured performances but they have still been very impressive with two wins and a draw in their last three games on the road. The south of France club usually do alright in this competition with them only failing to get past the ninth round (the first round that Ligue 1 teams appear) in one of the last seven years.
Trélissac looking for revenge?
Marseille’s opponents for this one don’t have as such an illustrious record in the tournament with the Championnat National 2 club only reaching this stage of the competition in three of their last ten attempts. They were actually knocked out of the cup in 2016 by Marseille so Trélissac could be looking at this match as an opportunity for revenge.
Trélissac currently play their football in the fourth tier of French football but it hasn’t been a successful campaign so far with them currently sitting 14th in the 16 team league. They have won just two of their last eleven games and with one of those victories coming over bottom club Stade Bordelais, there hasn’t been a lot to shout about for their fans.
Despite their perilous position on the table, Trélissac have only conceded twelve goals this season, a better tally than current leaders Sète. Their real struggles have been at the other end of the pitch as they’ve failed to score in six of their last eleven league games but due to this defensive fortitude we don’t see this one ending up a cricket score. They have faced two Ligue 1 teams in recent years with both games ending with respectable scores (1-1 penalty win over Lille and a 2-0 defeat to Marseille, both in 2016).
André Villas-Boas’ men confident going into this one
We still think the heavyweights Marseille will breeze over the line but we doubt it’ll be by any remarkable scoreline. The visitors have only scored more than three goals in two of their last 14 Coupe de France games so we’re backing this one to finish 2-0 to the away side. We’re also backing Marseille to score under 2.5 goals due to their lack of clinical form in this competition and Trélissac’s defensive form.
