Vitesse vs Fortuna Sittard Predictions
Vitesse dropped to seventh in the Eredivisie table last weekend following their 2-0 defeat against Excelsior, while Sunday’s opponents Fortuna Sittard picked up a big three points against fellow newly promoted De Graafschap. There are just two points between the two clubs heading into this weekends encounter, and if Fortuna Sittard can make it back to back wins, they would leapfrog Vitesse and likely move into the top half of the table.
Vitesse actually had the better of the play away at Excelsior last weekend with 59% of the overall possession, eighteen shots, and thirteen corners, but still ended up walking away as the losers. Excelsior certainly had their share of luck during the match, including the opening goal which deflected off a Vitesse defender and went down as a Clark own goal.
The hosts lead 1-0 at the break despite the best efforts of Vitesse, and when Mattheij made it 2-0 in the seventieth minute, the visitors knew that luck was not with them. If the visitors were in any doubt as to just how much this game was going against them, the stoppage time sending off of Excelsior goalkeeper Stevens produced a penalty kick that was missed by Algeria’s Darfalou and the scoreline remained 2-0.
Matavž remains Vitesse’s top scorer in the league this season with five goals, and there is no doubt that when the Slovenian is in the starting lineup he makes them a much more threatening force in the final third. Simile for the visitors Fortuna Sittard, the inclusion of America forward Novakovich makes them a threat, and with four goals already they might just possess a striker capable of scoring into double figures this season.
Novakovich played the entire ninety minutes against De Graafschap last weekend and even though he didn’t score, Fortuna Sittard still ran out comfortable 3-1 winners. A thirty-eighth minute strike from Lamprou saw the hosts take a half time lead, but El Jebli equalised for De Graafschap just five minutes after the restart.
Lisandro Semedo had missed a penalty late in the first half for the hosts and it looked like being a costly miss from the Portuguese forward, until two late goals inside the final seven minutes from Lamprou and Ňinaj wrapped up the three points for Fortuna Sittard.
Both teams tend to play open, attacking football and we’re expecting that style of game on Sunday when the pair clash. We’re confident that both teams will score and that over 2.5 goals will be produced during the ninety minutes, and have backed the game to end in a 2-2 draw.
Both teams have scored in three of Vitesse’s last six matches, while over 2.5 goals have been scored in three of the hosts last six matches. Over 2.5 goals have been scored in five of Fortuna Sittard’s last six matches, and both teams have scored in four of the visitors last six matches.
Both teams have scored and over 2.5 goals were produced in three of the last six meetings between the two clubs, and we’re expecting more of the same on Sunday.
