Atalanta to Win

Reason for tip

Atalanta are one of just two unbeaten teams in Serie A this season, and have won three of their last four home games. Meanwhile, Lazio have only won one of their last seven meetings with La Dea, and have lost star striker Ciro Immobile to injury until 2023.

Atalanta 1-0

Reason for tip

Lazio had already failed to score in two of their last four games, and the loss of Immobile makes a home clean sheet more likely. Atalanta have kept two shutouts in their last four outings, and have conceded just six Serie A goals this season.

Atalanta vs Lazio Predictions

  • Atalanta are one of two unbeaten teams in Serie A, winning seven of their 10 games this season.
  • The hosts have won three of their last four home matches.
  • Lazio, meanwhile, have only won one of the teams’ last seven head-to-head meetings (D3 L3).

La Dea face tough test

Atalanta have defied the odds so far this season to remain unbeaten – joining Napoli as the only Serie A teams yet to taste defeat in 2022-23. On Sunday, the visit of Lazio – who sit fifth in the table following a run of four league games without defeat, will represent a tough test – but it’s one Gian Piero Gasperini’s men may have the tools to pass.

Indeed, Atalanta’s tally of six goals conceded in Serie A this season is fewer than all but their next opponents (who have conceded just five times), and only Roma and Inter Milan have allowed opponents fewer expected goals (xG). Gasperini’s men have a strong home record, winning three of their last four games in Bergamo, while they have only lost one of their last seven head-to-head meetings with Lazio (W3 D3).

Lazio have been in good form of late – going six matches unbeaten in all competitions – but there are reasons to suspect that run may end on Sunday. Firstly, Lazio’s five goals conceded have come from a tally of 13 expected goals against (xGA) – the ninth-highest tally in Serie A and one which suggests the Biancocelesti have benefitted from more than a healthy dose of luck this campaign. Furthermore, Lazio, having failed to score in two of their last four games, have now lost top goalscorer Ciro Immobile to a thigh injury.

Hosts can down depleted Biancocelesti

Given Lazio will be without their talismanic striker Immobile and have given up far more quality chances this season than viewers may realise, backing Atalanta looks the prudent play for Sunday’s match.

Meanwhile, with the hosts keeping two clean sheets in their last four games, a 1-0 win for Atalanta may represent a decent correct score prediction.
