Draw 2-2

Reason for tip

Liverpool have conceded exactly two goals in three of their seven matches this season, but have scored multiple goals in all but two. Palace battled back for a 2-2 draw when they met at Wembley in August and may be able to do something similar at home.

Clash of the unbeatens in Croydon

The Premier League’s last two unbeaten sides this season face off at Selhurst Park on Saturday and there is a good chance that both Crystal Palace and Liverpool will remain that way at the final whistle.

Liverpool, as Premier League champions and current leaders by five points, go into the clash as favourites but recent games against Palace have proven problematic for the Merseysiders.

They slipped up at home to the Eagles last season and lost this summer’s Community Shield on penalties to Oliver Glasner’s men after a thrilling 2-2 draw at Wembley. The Reds did secure a 1-0 win at Selhurst Park early last season to make it nine wins and a draw in their last 10 Premier League visits, however.

Both teams to score at Selhurst Park

Palace’s unbeaten status this term has been built on a rock-solid defence that has conceded only twice in five league outings and three times in eight games overall since that Wembley match in August. Almost-Liverpool signing Marc Guehi has been excellent in trying circumstances and only seven clubs in the top-flight have better numbers than the Eagles for expected goals against.

However, nobody has been able to shut out Arne Slot’s team this season and it seems unlikely that Palace will unless the Reds collectively have a stinker. There are simply too many good players in the probable starting XI or waiting on the bench for that to happen, though.

Glasner’s side were blown away by some brilliant front-foot football from Slot’s side at Wembley, but worked their way back into the match by continually probing. They will expect to create chances with a much smaller share of possession than the visitors on Saturday and could deny Liverpool a third clean sheet of the campaign.

Sarr offers better scoring value than Isak

Backing both teams to score again looks the safest way into this clash with the possibility of another 2-2 draw appearing not wholly unrealistic. Liverpool left it late again in the Carabao Cup against Southampton on Tuesday and their happy knack of finding a winner in the dying moments make them a hard side to oppose.

Received wisdom in football suggests their run of late winners cannot be sustained and this is certainly the sort of venue where they may fall short of victory if Palace raise their game.

Alexander Isak is slated to start up front for the visitors with Hugo Ekitike suspended and the Swede, who Slot says is still effectively in his pre-season, will be looking to grab his first league goal for the Reds. Ismaila Sarr may offer better value in the anytime market here, however, after registering in two of Palace’s last four Premier League matches and in each of the Eagles’ last two matches against Liverpool.
