      Tranmere vs Port Vale Predictions

Tranmere Rovers take on Port Vale this weekend at Prenton Park as they look to consolidate what has been a solid start to life back in the football league for the Super White Army.

After ending their football league exile and returning to League Two, Tranmere have won one, drawn two and lost one of their first four league fixtures, collecting five points from a possible twelve in total.

While their start hasn’t been spectacular, getting points on the board early offers a great base to built upon for Manager Micky Mellon. Rovers’ boss will be pleased at how his side have taken to football at a higher level, though there is still plenty of room for improvement.

Having lost to Walsall and Swindon and drawn with Mansfield, Rovers are without a win in three matches, though their unbeaten start to life in League Two at Prenton Park should help to buoy their confidence ahead of Saturday’s contest.

Tranmere only took a point from their mid-week meeting with Mansfield Town in front of their own fervent supporters, though they will fancy their chances of improving on that result against a Port Vale side who have lost both of their away matches so far this season.

The Valiants have taken one point more than Rovers in the league after four matches, though it’s worth pointing out that they have lost one more game than their weekend opponents too.

In fact, Port Vale have lost three of their last four games overall, having come unstuck in their fixtures against Colchester, Lincoln City and most recently on Tuesday against Carlisle United. Already Port Vale’s impressive 3-0 opening day win against Cambridge United feels like a long time ago.

Since then, Neil Aspin’s side have been softened up somewhat for Tranmere Rovers ahead of Saturday’s fixture and the home side have every chance of heaping on the misery for Port Vale at Prenton Park.

Port Vale were one of the most unimpressive performers in League Two last season, finishing just one point clear of the drop zone when the last ball was kicked. They have shown a real fragility in many of their early season fixtures in 2018/19 and we’re backing Tranmere to use home advantage to grab a win on Saturday.

Having thrown away a two-goal lead at Swindon and failing to make the most of their chances against Mansfield, Micky Mellon will have drilled home the importance of turning over Port Vale on Saturday. Rovers had the best home record in the National League last season and we’re tipping them to enhance their reputation as a formidable side at Prenton Park against Port Vale on Saturday.

Three of Rovers’ five games so far this term have finished with over 2.5 goals scored in them, a statistic matched stride for stride by Port Vale, who have also seen over 2.5 goals registered in 60% of their five matches this season.

We expect that healthy goal average to be maintained this weekend, so we’re backing over 2.5 goals to be scored again. Our correct score prediction sees Tranmere edging the game 2-1.
