Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Southampton have scored in all of their games across all competitions and both teams have scored in all of their league games. Portsmouth are also yet to draw a blank so backing both teams to score looks a strong option here.

Southampton 2-1

Southampton vs Portsmouth Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in all four of Southampton’s Championship games.
  • Both of these teams have scored in all of their games.
  • Portsmouth have two defeats in five games across all comps.

Saints and Pompey resume rivalry

There is just one Championship game on Sunday as Southampton host Portsmouth in the first South Coast Derby since 2019 in a midday kick off.

Saints come into the game as the odds-on favourites but Portsmouth are just about the side in the better form with seven points from four games compared to their hosts’ tally of five.

Ultimately, Southampton’s home advantage and quality should see them take the spoils in the first league meeting between these two rivlals since 2012 but the best angle could be backing both teams to score.

Pompey are yet to draw a blank in any competition after five games and they’ve conceded in three of those.

Southampton have also scored in all of their games and they are yet to keep a clean sheet in the Championship.

Saints beat Wrexham in their opening home game of the campaign but suffered their only defeat of the campaign so far in their second assignment at St Mary’s, losing out 2-1 to Stoke. On the balance of play that defeat was perhaps harsh on Will Still’s men and they should be able to grind out a win over neighbours Pompey, who had the Championship’s second worst road record last term, so a 2-1 home win seems a reasonable correct score prediction.
