Wolverhampton vs Olympiacos Predictions

  • Wolves have won six of their seven home games in the Europa League
  • The hosts have conceded in just one of their last eight home matches in all competitions
  • Wolves won to nil on five occasions in nine games post-restart
  • Olympiakos went out of the Champions League with just one win, losing all three away trips

Thursday’s tie a year in the making

Wolves kicked off their Europa League campaign in July last year, but they’re hoping it has a few weeks left. They clash with Olympiakos on Thursday aiming to book their place in a European quarter-final for the first time since the 1971/72 UEFA Cup.

However, the Greek side will be aiming to reach the quarter-finals of a major European competition for the first time since the 1998-99 Champions League campaign. They dumped out Arsenal in the last round, so can Wolves better that and keep their European journey alive? Our predictions point to them extending their season even further.

Wolves can keep Europa consistency

Wolves are facing their final chance to play European football for another year, after missing out on a top six finish in the Premier League. They are in with the chance to play in next season’s Champions League, if they can go all the way in this competition.

They’ve certainly impressed in Europe at both ends of the pitch. Wolves have scored in all eight of their Europa League matches since their 0-1 defeat to Sporting Braga in their opening group game (18 goals in total). Meanwhile, they’ve won five of their seven home games to nil.

The hosts have won six of those seven at home overall, while they finished the season in strong form. They claimed five wins to nil in their final nine games of the campaign. At home, they have kept a clean sheet in seven of their last eight, which sets them up for a strong performance here.

Hosts primed to qualify

Wolves look like a side built for European games. They don’t concede many goals, have excellent structure, pace on the counter and clinical forwards. Raul Jimenez has admirers across Europe, while Diogo Jota has back to back hat-tricks at home in this competition.

The hosts have options, while they should expect to fare better than Arsenal. The Gunners’ exit to the Greek side seemed be down to a mentality issue, something which Nuno Espirito Santo will be able to sort for Wolves. The visitors crashed out of the Champions League with just four points – including three away defeats. With Wolves looking sharp on the continental stage, we’re backing them for a win.

The hosts have proven themselves at this level and look solid at the back. Having scored 17 goals in seven home matches, our correct score prediction is to back Wolves to win 2-0.
