Eldense vs Sporting Gijon Predictions
- Sporting Gijon won the reverse fixture 2-0 earlier in the season.
- Eldense have failed to win any of their last five home league matches.
- Gijon have scored seven goals across their last three league games.
With Eldense already securing their safety this season after featuring in their first campaign in Spain’s second tier since 1963/64, the onus will be on Sporting Gijon in this clash as they look to leapfrog their way into a play-off spot on the final day.
Beginning the round sat two points adrift of sixth-placed Racing Santander, only a win will do for the visitors, who arrive here having won two of their last three league outings.
Gijon need to push
Given their need to win on this occasion, expect visiting Gijon to attack from the off just like they did during their 2-0 success in the reverse fixture, during which they led after just eight minutes thanks to a Gaspar Campos strike.
With no victory in three attempts on the road, the away side could find the going tough, but having only failed to score in one of their last five away league matches, a return to winning ways here at Estadio Municipal Nuevo Pepico Amat appears likely.
Eldense in woeful home form
It’s a good job that Eldense have already secured their survival in Spain’s Segunda Division as, at present, they remain in terrible form on home soil. A 0-0 draw with Levante last time out at this venue made it five without a win at home for the side from Valencia, four outings of which saw them fail to even find the back of the net.
With little to play for on this final matchday but pride, Fernando Estévez Martín could struggle to motivate his side to close out their home campaign with victory, especially in the face of an opponent set to arrive with little to lose.
Colombian winger Juan Otero has enjoyed a fine campaign with Gijon after joining on loan from Mexico’s Club America at the start of the season. He enters this clash as the away side’s joint top-scorer in the league with ten strikes to his name, three of which have come across his last five appearances.
