Ipswich To Win To Nil

Reason for tip

Oxford were lucky to snatch a point at struggling Norwich and could be outclassed by an Ipswich side that is back on track for promotion. Ipswich have won their last three away league games, They have kept back-to-back clean sheets and conceded only three goals in their last six games.

Ipswich 2-0

Reason for tip

Each of Ipswich’s recent away wins have been comfortable, all secured by a margin of more than one goal. They should score a couple against an Oxford side that have shipped multiple goals in three of their last five games. None of Ipswich’s last three league opponents have had an expected goals (xG) of more than 0.5, so a 2-0 win could be on the cards.

Ivan Azon To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna has been rotating his strikers and it could be the turn of Ivan Azon to start this one. The Spaniard scored his first goal for the club in this month’s 4-1 win at Swansea and offers a good target for crosses into the penalty area, which Oxford have been failing to defend successfully of late.

Oxford United vs Ipswich Predictions

  • Ipswich have won their last three away league games, each by a margin of more than one goal
  • Ipswich have kept back-to-back clean sheets and conceded only three goals in their last six games

Ipswich to extend away streak

Ipswich should extend their six-game unbeaten streak by recording a fourth away win in a row when they visit Kassam Stadium to take on a struggling Oxford side on Friday.

Keiran McKenna’s side have taken longer than many thought to exert their quality on the division, but the Tractor Boys are now pulling their weight. Town have trounced QPR, Swansea and Hull in consecutive road trips and should have too much firepower and defensive nous for the U’s.

Gary Rowett’s side are languishing down in 21st place, dangerously close to the drop zone, and their recent performances indicate a nervousness. They should have been beaten out of sight by fellow strugglers Norwich last time out, but the Canaries missed a hatful of chances and paid the price when Filip Krastev popped up with a 95th-minute leveller.

Town defenders are doing a great job

Ipswich are unlikely to make a similar mistake to their East Anglian rivals, mainly because they don’t really look like conceding a goal. They have recorded back-to-back clean sheets against Wrexham and Hull to post the best defensive record in the division in the last month.

McKenna’s side should be confident of another victory on Friday and it may be accompanied by a clean sheet.  Jacob Greaves and Dara O’Shea have been outstanding at the back, leaving Christian Walton with little to do in goal as none of their last three league opponents have had an expected goals (xG) of more than 0.5.

Back a 2-0 Town win with Spanish striker Ivan Azon, who has the penalty box presence to latch onto Oxford’s mistakes, available at decent odds to grab his second goal for the club.
