St Etienne Double Chance (Win or Draw)

Reason for tip

Monaco’s away form may potentially cost them a spot in the Champions League and their travel sickness might not be fixed in time for a trip to St Etienne. The Monegasques have won just two of their last 16 away matches in all competitions and could be frustrated by the Greens, who are fighting for survival and beat another top-four contender, Lyon, in their last home game.

St Etienne 2-1

Reason for tip

Both teams scored in each of St Etienne’s last five matches and six of Monaco’s last seven, suggesting a thriller could be on the cards at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard. At a big price, it could pay to back the hosts to replicate their 2-1 victory over Lyon, the side directly below Monaco in the table heading into this round of fixtures.

St Etienne vs Monaco Predictions

  • Monaco have won just two of their last 16 away games in all competitions
  • St Etienne have lost only three of their last eight home matches, beating Lyon last time
  • Both teams scored in each of St Etienne’s last five matches and six of Monaco’s last seven of the road

Monaco may be frustrated by point-hungry hosts

With just four points separating second and seventh in Ligue and only three games to go, it is anybody’s guess as to who will secure Champions League and Europa League football.

Monaco had looked nailed on to dine at Europe’s top table at one point but they now find themselves fourth and should they miss out on a top-four spot, their away form must be to blame.

The Monegasques have lost just two league matches on their own patch this term, yet they have been defeated six times on their travels and secured just five wins on the road.

Away form might cost Monegasques in tight top-four tussle

They have a great opportunity to rectify that record on Saturday when they face second-bottom St Etienne but, with their hosts battling bravely against relegation, Monaco’s travel sickness could kick in again.

The Monegasques are strong odds-on for this clash but that looks far too short for a side who have won just two of their last 16 away games in all competitions.

St Etienne have picked up 21 of their 27 Ligue 1 points at home this term and, having lost just three of their last eight matches on their own patch and beating Monaco’s top-four rivals Lyon in their most recent outing at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, the Greens can take another big step towards survival on Saturday.
